Places to do Watersports in Northumberland

Updated: Nov 2, 2022

Thanks to the amazing Northumberland coastline water sports such as surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking and kite surfing to name a few have never been so in demand. In Northumberland we are fortunate to have so many beautiful locations from which to enjoy or learn for the first time these water based activities. If like me, until recently you or your family have never tried these activities, you maybe asking where can you go for lessons or maybe you want to improve your skills? Well, to get you started here are some of the local water sports providers,  some of which I can personally recommend in Northumberland.

NE Surf School Bamburgh

If you’re looking for surfing lessons with quality coaches then Chris and Emily of NE Surf school are both experienced patient and knowledgeable coaches to help you either get started on the water or help improve your skills. It is what they live for and can’t wait to share it with you. Lessons are small and personalised and you will learn to surf properly and not just be able to stand up on a board. And what a great location to learn with views of Bamburgh Castle as a back drop. More recently they have secured funding to be able to help deliver surf therapy and adaptive surfing lessons in Northumberland too. To learn more and book click here

Fearless Adventure Amble

When was the last time, you did something for the first time?” Explore the possibilities with Amble based water sports providers Fearless Adventure. Chris & Geoff Potts owners and coaches deliver quality paddle boarding sessions (and axe throwing sessions, not whilst on the paddle board of course!!) for all levels across locations throughout Northumberland including Amble, priding themselves on keeping their group sizes small, to ensure you get the most out of your experience and to ensure your safety at all times. Surf Northumberland Bamburgh

From the moment I stood up on a surfboard I was hooked ..’ owner Sally Cook. Sally is passionate about surfing as well as both the physical and mental health rewards it can bring. Sally’s ethos is that surfing should always be safe but fun. Sally and Harry (Sally’s son) are both qualified and experienced instructors running surf lessons from Bamburgh all year long and along the Northumberland coast. If you’re after a surf school who balances teaching and practical on the water skills with lots of fun Surf Northumberland is for you check their details out here
